We're told it's a turkey...

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. We're heading to Omaha tonight, so likely little until we get back. However, I am setting up a post to go up on Black Friday likely to scare the bejeezus out of all of you...

Allow me to clarify

I said earlier this week that the baby has very little hair. That's not totally true.

Heading into the holidays (a post of the family)

Yesterday we saw santa. It's a very...special holiday picture. However, it's a little too early to put it up, so please be patient.

We also got a new camera from Smartie's brother, so pics of Munch will resume shortly.

In the meantime, it's less than 4 weeks until Munchie's first birthday. Many people have been asking about gifts for her big day as well as Christmas, so a link to her Amazon wish list follows:

My Amazon.com Wish List

She's most interested right now in blocks, books and beads (something about those pop together beads make her extremely happy).

More later -- Smartie's walzing her around the living room right now, and I think I need to go provide music.

Hi

I know it's been a while. It's been a long week. Some work, some more personal. Last week Munch started daycare, and we kept getting calls that she would be running a temperature. They'd be gone by the next morning, then start again. Finally, on Friday, she was running 103 so they made Smartie come and bring her home, where she spent the rest of the day cuddling with him and sleeping. We took her temp and it was only 100 again, and by the next day it was gone, but I set up a doctor's appointment for Monday just to be safe.

When we took her in the doctor was a little more concerned. He was worried about what we appear to be describing as "cyclical fevers" especially combined with the fact that her weight had dropped to 25th percentile after being up at 50% two months ago. We had bloodwork taken, which we haven't heard back about yet, but I have to assume that if there was anything wrong they would have told us by now.

It's possible that she may have digestive issues, since we were having problems getting her to eat. We brought in a tracking of what she had eaten last week, and he seemed to think that both formula and solids wise it was quite a bit less than she should, and, considering he was the one who always answered my "how much should she eat?" with "as much as she wants" I was a little surprised. She's on preemie formula now for a bit to see if we can start some bulk, since my problem for the week before had been that if you try to force a little extra solid on her she would have a little "reversal of fortune".

But, like all good children, now that she has been to the doctor, she seems fine. She increased her formula on her own for the most part, getting back up to 22-24 oz a day. And suddenly she just can't get enough foods. Her sheets from daycare reads like a grocery list down the baby food aisle, with peaches, cereal, mac and cheese, peas, even tater tots and bread. And when she gets home it will be another meat meal, or a half a jar of #3 dinner and a container of dessert, washed down with a final bottle.

I don't know what happened from last week to this week. Maybe she just didn't like change. Maybe it was the new teeth, which seem to be all trying to come in at once. Maybe it was a fight against new germs at the daycare center. All I know is now she eats like a champ, we haven't had a throw up this week, and she's back to mostly sleeping through the night again.

Hopefully she'll be back up to 50% when we take her in for her 12 month next month, and the testing the doctor is recommending (and subsequent medication)won't be necessary.

As for the video I promised....well, Much can walk now, sort of. But she chooses not to, and we've decided we are cool with that. We let her practice for a bit walking back and forth from Smartie to me, which she loves, but she doesn't want to go any further than that. And since we are both necessary in that process, neither one of us can tape it to show you. After so much rushing, she seems to have decided to take a breather developmentally, which is good, I think. She needs time to catch up. So no real new tricks, words, anything like that. She does still loves peekaboo more than anything in the world, except maybe pulling laundry baskets over her head and crawling around with them covering her.

She still loves daycare, although she has started crying a bit when dropped off, especially if she's one of the only kids there in the morning. The care center sends home little notes about what she did during the day. I think we may have an Alpha girl on our hands -- apparently some of the other kids like to follow her around and see what she plays with. Never too young for an entourage, I suppose.

Speaking of which, we still don't have a camera, but I found an old playdate pic I don't think I posted before that will suffice for today. It's Munch's first playdate, and you can tell how well it is going by the fact that they traded sippy cups (she's a little mooch when it comes to that sort of thing -- I guess she's stealing a kid's binky at the care center, and she hasn't had one of those since she was two days old.). Tru will be one three weeks before Munch --they were both due on the same day.

President-Elect Barack Obama

And yes, I did think that I may be shaking the hand of the someday President of the United States that day. I just did not realize it would be 2 years later.

The party at the 331 Club was large and jubilant last night. When Ohio came in for Obama, the bar erupted in cheers, sensing that it would truly happen this time.

The euphoria from that moment is carrying me for now. Madia lost his bid for the 3rd through issues I deem not completely under his own control, Tinklenberg lost by a very narrow margin that honestly should not have occurred, and Franken, so close. I won't get my hopes up in a recount, but instead use it as a reminder to people that every vote really does count.

For now, looking forward to the future, and the too short interim before people start the 2010 gubernatorial race.

Election night party at the 331

(for any cribsheeters, we'll have Munch there until 8, and you know you want to try and win a "Goodnight Bush" book for yourself. Let me know if you are coming and I'll bring some baby snacks)

Do you know where you are going to be on election night? Well, once you are done voting, come to the 331 Club to celebrate with your Drinking Liberally friends. We'll have drink specials, Raleigh's Tacos, wifi, election returns, and giveways. Copies of "Goodnight Bush" will be given away every 30 minutes between 7:30 and 9, and KFAI will be calling throughout the night for live updates.

Celebrate this historic election with Drinking Liberally!

Daycare update

For those who were wondering, Munch loves daycare. She ate cheerios, which I hadn't approved yet, but whatever. She got to the center and pushed her dad away yesterday to get down and play with the toys -- no goodbyes wanted.

Our note from the provider said she had an "awesome" day, playing with toys, playing outside and talking to baby in the mirror during diaper changes. They also yelled at us for sending her in with a temperature, which we had no idea we had done. Turns out the waking during the night and early morning crying were possibly caused by her not feeling well. She ate two spoons of mac and cheese once she got home and projectiled all over the place. We bathed her and took her temp and they were right -- almost 100 degrees. We weren't sure how much of it was that she had a bath a little earlier, but as a precaution we gave a little tylenol and put her straight to bed.

This morning, fine. No temp, not eating issues (although we told them nothing but purees today just in case), and she entertained the line at the polling place before her daddy took her back to the center. Once there, she promptly pushed him away, crawled to a baby and stole his toy.

"She's determined" the careworker told him.

We call it other things in our house.

Don't forget to vote!

Camera questions

Sorry we don't have any pictures of Vi in her Halloween costume last night (she was a butterfly) but both of the cameras we have in the house appear to have simultaneously given up the ghost. So....

Does anyone have any suggestions for a new digital camera? We just want something small enough to fit into a diaper bag or purse with a decent picture quality and a fairly quick shutter speed to capture baby in motion. We have a video camera so we don't need video capabilities.

Any thoughts? Lots of holidays coming up, so we'd like to pick something up relatively soon.
